Welcome Dr. Joy Bliss to the rightwing psychosphere, who writes about the myths of hardship from her perch of privilege at …wait for it…
Yes Maggie’s Farm, of the astonishingly vapid and politically insane Pajamas Media network, complete with resident shrink on board to bewail their own psych patients as parasitic malingerers who contribute nothing to society but the maintenance of the very socialistic welfare state all God’s neocons are out to dismantle. How’s that for a conflict of interest?
Privilege: One who has never experienced the ontological horror of PTSD presenting herself as an authority on the subject:
Our readers don’t know me, or my credentials, so you have no reason to believe me. I will tell you anyway: “PTSD” is a highly dubious diagnosis about which there is little agreement – but much recent discussion – in Psychiatry.
No proof, links or statistics are given to back that outrageous claim of course, because this is Pajamas Media, where you come to agree. Fine, so go the fartings of the internets. But this is someone who treats patients? I wonder if they realize she wishes they were dead.
To summarize, Dr. Joy Bliss wants you to understand PTSD as “a legal scam,” which enables those who “cope poorly with life events” to claim disability and get a free ride off the government. We’re sucking at her teat, bleeding her dry.
Wasn’t the whole idea of the “Americans with Disabilities Act” to get the disabled back to work, and to help them regain their autonomy and dignity? Switzerland recently decided that “job therapy” might be a good treatment for the disabled, and I think most shrinks would agree with that.
You can think up a lot of things if you hold your breath and squeeze your eyes real tight. And that’s what I find interesting about the Maggie’s thread, how Dr. Joy Bliss ignores the commenters who attempt to engage her hackery with an alternative point of view, citing the research of actual scholarship. Without a word out of her.
Glenn Greenwald on Pajamas Media:
They are completely unbound by facts and will recklessly spew the cheapest and most irresponsible innuendo as long as it bolsters their political goals. And when they are proven wrong — as they are with painful regularity — they simply move on, pretending it never happened.
Unconscionable, that is what they are, conservatives without conscience.
