President Bush is bullshitting about Haditha, I don’t jump to these conclusions, but I saw him bullshitting under question and I believe what I see.
A few months ago I posted the Knight Ridder report on Ishaqi at my message board; Happy Birthday Iraq War! I didn’t know if that was true, could be agitprop, I figured, the date of the alleged massacre coming one day before the third anniversary of US occupation. But I just think it should be someone’s job to investigate these matters.
Today I woke up to NBC’s Matt Laur reporting on Haditha, including the aside that there are “reports emerging of a similar atrocity in Ishaqi last March.” Why are they just now reporting this?
Connect the dots: marines are losing their minds, exhibiting features of clearly defined psychosis and are not being sent home or treated, but forced into combat and with official knowledge of their derangement.
The Hartford Courant, citing records obtained under the federal Freedom of Information Act and more than 100 interviews of families and military personnel, reported numerous cases in which the military failed to follow its own regulations in screening, treating and evacuating mentally unfit troops from Iraq.
“That has not happened before in our country,” said Arthur S. Blank Jr., a Yale-trained psychiatrist who helped get post-traumatic stress disorder recognized as a diagnosis after the Vietnam War. “I’m concerned.”
“The military”failed to follow its own regulations–who, specifically is accountable for this breech? And what is the punishment for failing to abide by their own rules? Will we see charges and tribunals down the road? When, 20 years from now? And who is responsible, Rummy? What happened with white phosphrous in Fallujah, that moldy old story? Why doesn’t the media ask questions and point fingers, why don’t they get to the bottom of anything!?
A US military investigation has found there was no misconduct by US troops over Iraqi civilian deaths in the town of Ishaqi, defence officials say.
This follows allegations that 11 people were deliberately shot by troops during a raid on a house in March.
The events in Ishaqi, north of Baghdad, are among a number of alleged atrocities by US troops in Iraq.
Yeah, and it’s more than a little disconcerting that a citizen and complete fuck up like me would publish the story 3 months before the mainstream media can be bothered. Why, in the face of such surreal negligence would I believe anything they say? Should the troops be cleared of Iraq wrongdoing? Isn’t this the next logical step, investigate the underpinnings? But why would reporters investigate when they don’t even report, til all of a sudden, speaking of Haditha, “Upon my word, similar allegations of military atrocity are emerging in a town called Ishaqi.”
This isn’t right. Mainstream media made itself a powerful enemy today, one more ex moderate mental patient with a modem, tossing her hat in the firedoglake.
